Preserving fertility

Egg freezing

I am the perfect age to be a mother, however, I still don’t want to get pregnant, how can I preserve my fertility?

If you are 27 years old or older and still don’t want to get pregnant, the best way to preserve your fertility is through egg freezing. Egg freezing is a quick, simple and painless process, with the advantage that they can be frozen for years without affecting them. When you decide to get pregnant, the eggs quality  will be the same as at the age in which they were extracted.

How is the egg freezing procedure?

It has 2 steps, the first is to perform a controlled ovarian stimulation which consists of applying a medication subcutaneously for approximately 10 days. After assessing the ovaries by a vaginal ultrasound, a follicular aspiration is performed, which main goal is to extract the eggs. A vaginal procedure that takes up to 15 minutes. Finally, the eggs are frozen in the specialized laboratory of Gestare Star Medica and you can postpone your maternity for as long as you decide.

Preserving fertility before entering an oncologic process.

Due to the improvement of oncological treatments and the efficacy of programs for early diagnosis, it has been possible to increase the cure rates of some neoplasis. Because of these actions, it is necessary to consider the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments, since they can lead to the cessation of ovarian function, sperm production and sterility.

Patients who receive these treatments have an increased risk of presenting premature ovarian failure. This risk increases four times in the adolescent group, while for the ages of 21 to 35 it will increase 24 times. That’s why the possibilities for preserving the fertility of patients diagnosed with cancer should be considered from the moment of diagnosis.

Nowadays, women decide to postpone fertility for a longer period of time for personal or career reasons, deciding to pursue pregnancy after the age of 35, in which time the ovarian reserve decreases significantly, lowering the probability of a successful pregnancy.

Cryopreservation (freezing) of gametes and embryos is, nowadays, an essential part of assisted reproduction treatments, giving hope to many patients to preserve their fertility.

It is important to have efficient methods and techniques that guarantee the viability of the oocytes, spermatozoids and embryos after cryopreservation, capable of providing an accuracy similar to those achieved with fresh oocytes.

At Gestare we have the best technology and the most efficient protocols capable of guaranteeing high survival rates and satisfactory clinical results.
